About the Keyring Project
UPDATE: The Keyring Project has now concluded for 2012! Thanks to all of your support, I made over 200 keyrings, and we raised more than $3,400 for Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure and the National Brain Tumor Society via David Cook's LA Marathon and Race for Hope - DC teams! I will definitely be doing the Keyring Project again for the 2013 team(s), so stay tuned!
I’ve been trying to come up with something that I could make to do a bit of fundraising for David Cook’s LA Marathon and/or Race for Hope efforts for 2012...I want to make more of a concerted effort to help out with his Race for Hope team this year. Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure is a great organization that deserves support. A few months ago, I got an idea for a keyring that I wanted to design for myself. The design is derived from some of the themes on David Cook's record, This Loud Morning, namely the sleeping and waking up, day and night, “Circadian” and “Rapid Eye Movement” cycles, as well as a bit of a “Time Marches On” connection, in retrospect. Basically it’s a vintage, very slightly patinated, brass-plated steel spinner pendant…on one side there is a sun, on the other there is a moon, and each side is covered with a domed glass cabochon. I have my own keyring version of it, and I also gave one to David at a meet and greet during his tour last fall. I've decided to offer these keyrings for sale, with all proceeds going to either David Cook's LA Marathon team or his Race for Hope - DC team. Both of these efforts benefit Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2), and Race for Hope benefits National Brain Tumor Society as well. UPDATE (2/5/12): As of now $2,300 has been raised and donated to the LA Marathon team, which is awesome and a heck of a lot more than I thought I would be able to generate with this project. To spread the love, all proceeds beyond that $2,300 will now be donated via David's Race for Hope - DC team! Thank you all who have donated and ordered keyrings so far! I'm asking for a minimum donation of $8 per keyring, plus cover for shipping/materials. Please check the pages linked on the menu bar above for more information about how payments and donations will work, how to order, shipping information, and a breakdown of the materials costs. Thank you for your interest in supporting the cause...research is the "key" to finding a cure! -Olivia |
